Registration of dot-asia domain names

Following is the targeted launch dates for .ASIA. The timetable below gives an indication of the tasks to be undertaken and target dates for each.

Details of the dot asia launch

  1. Sunrise 1 (SR1) - Governmental Reserved Names
    - governments or relevant bodies may activate domains from the Reserved Named list compiled in Pre-Sunrise. Note that SR1 commences together with SR2a and that SR1 applications will be processed and allocated on a first-come-first served basis.
  2. Sunrise 2a (SR2a) - Early Bird Sunrise
    - holders of trademark registered in full force and effect before March 16, 2004 (SR2a cut-off date) may apply. Trademark must still be valid upon domain registration application and must have demonstrable usage (in the class if applicable). Domain registrant must be owner, co-owner or assignee of trademark. Even though documentary evidence is not mandatorily required, inspection maybe required. Registrant must also meet the Charter Eligibility Requirement (see below). All applications received during the respective SR2 and SR3 period will be treated as received at the same time (within their respective periods). If there are two or more (qualified) applicants competing for the same domain, the domain will go into an auction process and applicants will be contacted by the .ASIA registry directly. Details concerning the auction process will be available soon.
  3. Sunrise 2b (SR2b) : General Registered Trademarks
    - open to applicants with trademarks registered in full force and effect before December 6, 2006 (SR2b cut-off date). and still be valid upon domain registration application. Registrant must be owner, co-owner or assignee of the mark Even though documentary evidence is not mandatorily required, inspection maybe required. Registrant must also meet the Charter Eligibility Requirement (see below). All applications received during the respective SR2 and SR3 period will be treated as received at the same time (within their respective periods). If there are two or more (qualified) applicants competing for the same domain, the domain will go into an auction process and applicants will be contacted by the .ASIA registry directly. Details concerning the auction process will be available soon.
  4. Sunrise 2c (SR2c) - Extended Protection
    - for holders of trademarks eligible for SR2a or SR2b (though application for domain in SR2a/b is not a pre-requisite). Domain name applied for may be constituted with mark plus significant words from the class description in the Nice Classification system. For example, Trademark XYZ in Nice Class 1: "Telecom" may apply for "XYZtelecom.asia" The need for documentary evidence, meeting Charter Eligibility Requirements as well as the auction process for completing registrations is similar to SR2a/b above.
  5. Sunrise 3 (SR3) - Registered Entity Names
    - Domain name applied for must correspond to a Registered Entity Name (e.g. company name, organization name). The jurisdic entity must be registered on or before December 6, 2006 (SR3 cut-off date) Unlike SR2a/b/c, documentary evidence is required and must be submitted (e.g. Certification of Incorporation, etc.) and any submitted documents will be posted publicly. The need for meeting Charter Eligibility Requirements as well as the auction process for completing registrations is similar to SR2a/b above.
  6. Landrush Period
    - Applications from the general public are accepted provided that Charter Eligibility Requirements are meet. All application will be considers to be received at the same time. For applications with two or more (qualified) applicants, the auction process will be required.
  7. Public Registration
    - applications from anyone (person or entity) meeting the Charter Eligibility Requirements can apply on a first-come, first-served basis.
